No Plaid Poetry Thursday today. I haven't written anything and I've been a little busy. So sorry.

Today was the last official day of high school. Today was also the last episode of this season of Parenthood.

Mirthful Monday #8

Today, I had a sub in French class. My teacher is currently in France. She's missing my last two days of high school, but she'll be back for graduation. Anyway, during French, we were supposed to be working on computers on this thing we use called TellMeMore. It's this really stupid website where you do little games and exercises in order to "learn" more of another language. The problem is that it doesn't really work. On top of that, it wouldn't matter if I did anything in class or not, since my grades are already pretty much sealed. Instead of doing TellMeMore (it's like the Mavis Beacon of foreign language), I decided to surf the interwebs.

That little diddy led us to what I find mirthful today... Number 1, not doing what you're supposed to be doing in class. Nuber 2, MyLifeIsAverage.com.

That's right. For some reason, even though my school blocks almost every single fun website, it doesn't block MLIA or FML or any of those other sites. I, personally, like MLIA the best, but some of the others are funny, too.

My Life Is Average is basically where people post short descriptions of "average" things that happen in their daily lives. Most of the time, things are just plain silly, and that's what I love about them.

Here's to hoping that MLIA and similar sites can help make your Monday a little better.

Off the calendar

I have to get some stuff off my chest, and this is the only place that seems OK enough to do it. I'll probably just make this tomorrow's entry anyway.

Most of my friendships are falling apart. I feel like there's no one I can totally trust anymore. There's no one for me to rely on, at least not within my circle of friends at school. I have my best friend, who is always there for me, and The Boyfriend, who is just amazing... but it kills me to think that the people with whom I spend the most time are the people who are just going CRAZY right now. Everyone talks behind each others backs. When things get planned, they fall through 85% of the time. My group of friends is starting to split off into mini-groups and it's really starting to suck. Might as well just forget it all and start over this fall. New place, new friends, right?

Great way to end senior year, right?

Plaid Poetry Thursday #7

A student from my school just passed away, this morning or last night, not really sure. He'd been battling with cancer for a while, and although we thought he was in remission, he left us for a better place. A couple of teachers read this poem today. I thought it would be appropriate to post here, as well, even though I didn't write it. It's by John Donne.

"DEATH be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadfull, for, thou art not so,
For, those, whom thou think'st, thou dost overthrow,
Die not, poore death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleepe, which but thy pictures bee,
Much pleasure, then from thee, much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee doe goe,
Rest of their bones, and soules deliverie.
Thou art slave to Fate, Chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poyson, warre, and sicknesse dwell,
And poppie, or charmes can make us sleepe as well,
And better then thy stroake; why swell'st thou then;
One short sleepe past, wee wake eternally,
And death shall be no more; death, thou shalt die."

Rest in peace, Matt. Can't wait to see you again someday.

Two Sentence Tuesday #6

My Hamlet video is finally done. Also, things are getting too dramatic.

Mirthful Monday #7

Oh hay, it's Monday again.

Something I really enjoy is reading webcomics. I currently read 6 that update regularly, but there are 5 more that are either finished or have a sporadic update schedule which I also enjoy.

I really like webcomics because I get to see a little bit of a long story develop every day or at least every week. I also like seeing illustrations that go with the stories I read. Each author is a little bit different, as is every story. Some webcomics are more autobiographical, while others are entirely fictional. Most of the ones I read are pretty funny. Some have more profound moments, while others are just plain silly.

Here is a list of all the regularly updating comics I read:
1) Questionable Content (Fictional, well-drawn, funny, good plot and characters)
2) Johnny Wander (Autobiographical with some fiction, cute art, funny)
3) xkcd (Fictional standalones for the most part. Stick figures, but very consistent. Funny and smart)
4) Pictures for Sad Children (Fictional, some stories and some standalones. Funny but in a very dry way. Sometimes hard to understand.)
5) Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal (I think all standalones? OK art but VERY funny)
6) Orneryboy (Fictional but based on the author and his lady, follows a storyline, nice art, some fun flash bits thrown in, funny, angsty.)

The other comics, which are either over or update strangely, are:
1) Anders Loves Maria (Ended. Beautiful plot and art. Fairly dramatic but fantastic.)
2) Bear and Kitten (Almost a year of unannounced hiatus. By far the cutest webcomic I've ever seen. It's a bear and a kitten who live together, and I think they love each other but never officially. I really want this to come back!)
3) lolbots (Irregular updates. Cute shorts, based on the comic Diesel Sweeties, which I've tried, unsuccessfully, to read through. Funny but there aren't a lot of them.)
4) Just a Bit Off... (he's been super busy, understandable update weirdness. Fairly autobiographical, interesting art style. Takes the story of a pretty regular guy and makes it humorous and fun to read)
5) So Far Apart (from the author of ALM and her boyfriend. It's too new to see how the update schedule is going to work out, but it's about their long-distance relationship. It seems interesting, and I know I at least like 1/2 the art)

I used to read one called The Purple Hills Afar. It was about adorable bears who went on adventures and loved baked beans. The authors announced a month-long vacation, and after a few months without updates, the website suddenly disappeared, nothing but an unused domain name. I have since been unable to relocate the comic. I hope it comes back someday!

Sorry that this post was a little long... and also fragmented. I wasn't really sure how I wanted to write it so it came out all jumbled. Anyway, here's to hoping you find something new and brighten your Monday, since we all know that Mondays SUCK.

Self Centered Saturday #7

Apparently, there's going to be a Sims movie. I can't find much info about it. Allegedly there was some form of plot explanation on imdb, but I can't access it now because I don't want to fork over the cash for imdb pro. From what I've read, it looks like it will be about some kids/teens in a town called Pleasantville who find a game called "Sims:Infinity Pack" or something along those lines and decide to play it, but they don't realize that what they do on the computer controls what happens in real life. This isn't a new concept to movies, but still, I have to wonder what it will be like (if it even happens at all). All I can see on imdb now is that it's scheduled for release sometime in 2012.

I wonder if this is actually going to happen. Part of me wants to see it, but at the same time, I'm sure it's going to be awful. Still, I'll always love The Sims series.

What else?... Tonight is my schools Jr/Sr banquet. It's basically prom without dancing. After Jr/Sr, my friends and I are taking a limo to a boat for a post-prom type thing. I think there will be dancing on the boat. I don't get to bring The Boyfriend to Jr/Sr but he's coming on the boat with me, so all is well in my opinion. :) I'm pretty excited.

At the same time, I'm worried about drama. Nothing has happened, but some of my friends have been acting sort of on-edge lately, and I'm worried that something bad is going to happen tonight. I hope that's not the case. One of the biggest benefits of being out of high school will be significantly less drama. (No, I don't have experience with college, so I can't say there won't be any drama in college, however I'm POSITIVE it's got to be less than the stuff that goes on in a private high school with about 650 students.)

Not really much else to post. I think I'll play Sims for a little while.

Plaid Poetry Thursday #6

I'm working on a couple poems that are meant to go side by side. I haven't done any revisions and I just wrote them today... so here they are.

1. Davis

I just found out that
I have a great grandma.
No, actually I had one.
I never met her, and I never will.
She died yesterday,
Or the day before.
After 92 years, she’s gone and I’ll never get her back,
Even though she never was mine to begin with.
I have to wonder,
Was her hair white?
Were her fingernails long and painted blue
To match that eyeshadow she always wore?
Did she love photography?
Do I look like her?
I like to think she was kind,
And maybe she loved me, or at least
The idea of me.
Maybe she had an old picture of me in a frame
Sitting on that ancient piano
Which all great grandmas own.
Maybe those birthday cards just got lost in the mail.
You can’t blame the mailman for dropping things in January, after all.
“She lived a good life,” they said,
But what does that even mean?
Did my father like her?
I guess I’ll never know,
But I like to think that Great-Grandma Davis
Thought about me sometimes.

2. Ina
There was this woman once,
She was tall and old,
But she wasn’t frail
And she wore a platinum blonde wig.
She knew how to cha-cha dance,
But not like everyone else,
And all the women in the family can do it too,
But not as well.
She never said hello. She said,
“Hallooooooo,”
The same shrill way we all do.
She had this way about her,
Much like the other grandmothers,
But never too sweet.
If anyone said, “So,”
She would reply,
“So, so, suck your toe all the way to Mexico.
While you’re there, comb your hair
And don’t forget your underwear.”
She was always proud to be a Harju.
This old woman knew how to sew,
And she did it with class.
I still have that white dress
With the strawberries,
Even though it will never again fit me;
Even though my sister wore it first.
And when I look in that mirror
She passed on to me when I was 6,
I see Ina in me.

Two Sentence Tuesday #5

Today, I (along with a good friend and another really awesome girl from school) wrote out a whole bunch of things on a white board table (this makes sense, right?) of what we, as seniors, would like to say to freshman. I'm feeling pretty proud of that list and how far I've come in the last four years.

Mirthful Monday #6

Hey kids. Since it's the middle of May, I figured an entry on something I thoroughly enjoy would be appropriate. That something? Getting dressed up.

There's something about putting on a pretty dress, doing my hair and makeup all nice, and hanging out with a bunch of awesome people who have done generally the same thing that just makes me really happy. I went to prom on Friday. It was a lot of fun, and I got to wear a sweet dress that my friend (very kindly!) offered to let me borrow. It worked out really well. I thank God for giving me a BFF who is about the same size and shape as I am. It was really fun to get all dolled up and go out and eat a fancy dinner and dance with The Boyfriend, who was looking fantastic (as usual) in his tux (HIS tux, not a rented one, mind you). And now I can say that I own a pair of hoop earrings!

Since I go to a different school than The Boyfriend, I basically have twice the opportunities for dressing up than normal. This Saturday is my school's "prom," which is really called Junior/Senior Banquet. The juniors decorate the commons in our school (looks like a smallish gym but is used as the cafeteria at lunch) and then all the juniors and seniors dress up and eat together and the sophomores serve and entertain. The teachers say cute things and do skits and we all have a fantastic time. Sadly, The Boyfriend can't go because no outside-of-schoolers are allowed, however I still plan to have a blast. I have this FANTASTIC dress from the 80s (literally) that I can't wait to wear! I'll try and post pictures at some point.

Anyway, here's to getting all dolled up with your friends and having a great time! (Also, going out and doing something after, while still dressed up, is really awesome. We went laser tagging after prom, and I've gone bowling in a long dress for events in the past. Whee!)

Hopefully this made you smile, and maybe it made your Monday a little happier. Anyone else excited for prom/etc? Or has anyone already gone?

I'm bored and it's Sunday so I'm not blogging today. Ask me things? I know I keep posting this, but it's because I'd like to answer questions on a consistent basis. Maybe something someone asks will turn into a blog entry? ♥ http://formspring.me/Pamplemousse93

This is gonna be a short one. I'm totally exhausted. Prom was yesterday and I was up til 4am because of that. We went laser tagging and to Denny's after, haha. Super fun. I came in 2nd out of the 8 of us in laser tagging!! :D Pretty cool, not gonna lie.

I spent the day with The Boyfriend today. We went shopping and hung out at his house. Good times. Tomorrow is Mother's Day, which is partially what we shopped for, and I'm hoping his mom likes her present. I know my mommy will like hers. My dad and I are making her breakfast and then I'm giving her this thing I made for her in ceramics and then my dad said his present is just gonna be moolah for me to take her shopping if that's what she wants to do with it, or whatever else, I suppose. Should be fun. :)

"It's the middle of the day and they're both practically naked. She's bangin' him."
-Law and Order, SVU

I'm watching SVU and I thought that was a funny sounding quote.

Alright, I'm done. Have a good one, kids.

Plaid Poetry Thursday #5

I haven't written anything this week. AP tests are going on and I'm the ONLY person in my indie study who didn't have any, so my teacher basically just gave me the week off. To apologize for my lack of a better entry, I will write a haiku about something that is annoying.

Mirthful Monday #5

Hey, kids.

I've posted some jokes and some things I find funny, but today I'd like to post something that just makes me smile. It might seem really cheesy, but it's a great site and it definitely resonates with me. The site is called 1000 Awesome Things. You've probably/maybe heard of it. Basically, the person who writes it writes about things in life that are... well... awesome. For example, a recent entry on this site is all about dancing when you're home alone. I consider this to be a very awesome thing. I think the writer started at 1000 and is counting down... I wonder what will happen once he reaches 1... maybe he'll just start over. Here's to hoping that Neil (the writer) never runs out of awesome things to write about, and also to your Monday getting a little bit better. :)

Self Centered Saturday #5

Hello all!

I started a formspring account a while ago. It's that website where people ask you questions (anonymously or not) and then you answer (or choose not to answer if it's stupid). If you wanna ask me a question, here be the URL: http://www.formspring.me/Pamplemousse93 .

My friend Maggie had her birthday party here last night. It was lots of fun. :) I think she enjoyed herself. Happy 19th on Monday, Mags! Love ya!

I STILL haven't watched Parenthood this week. I'm a nice girlfriend and have waited to watch it until The Boyfriend and I could watch it together. Hopefully, that will be today. Waiting is driving me CRAZY. I like that show a lot.

There are officially 3 weeks of high school left for me. After those 3 weeks, I'll have 3 days of finals, then 5 days of a senior trip, and then graduation. Oh my gosh. This is crazy. I honestly can't believe I'm almost done with high school. I can guarantee I'm going to start bawling at graduation... I almost started crying today when my mom and I were talking about it. Wow.

Not much else to say. By the way, how are you all feeling about high school? If you're like me, are you going to miss it? If you're still a junior or below, how's it going? If you're out of high school, what was it like to leave and go to college/life/etc?
